What We Teach
Accelerated Christian Education
(Commonly Called A.C.E.)
A.C.E. Core curriculum provides students with
...academics, skill-building, reading practice, character and wisdom training, and a knowledge of God and His Word. This complete package begins with reading development and progresses through high school, giving students a solid foundation for pursuing their life goals.
Students who are more skilled may progress at a faster rate or may accelerate in the areas of their academic strengths. Slower students are encouraged to do their best but are able to work at their levels of proficiency and proceed as they are capable.
A.C.E. has taken the conventionally styled textbook and divided it into bite-sized, achievable worktexts called PACEs. Each PACE is similar to a unit in a textbook. Each level consists of 12 PACEs in each subject.
PACEs integrate Godly character-building lessons into the academic content, and self-instructional activities are carefully designed to develop thinking skills and create mastery learning.
Unlike a classroom setting where a teacher lectures the students, A.C.E.’s curriculum allows students to read the material for themselves, answer questions, and then test comprehension of the subject. Whether the student is a high achiever or a moderately-paced learner, the A.C.E. curriculum progresses at the exact level of the child’s ability, helping those students who have fallen behind academically. Once the educational or character flaw that has hindered their desire to learn has been properly dealt with, we see students start learning at progressively faster rates and their desire to learn and achieve increases.
We offer dual-enrollment capability with Lighthouse Christian Academy (accredited through the National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA)), and are individually accredited in the state of Mississippi through A.C.E. at the highest level, as a Model status school.
Electives and Additional Instruction Programs
In order to enhance the core curriculum, A.C.E. offers a number of other program opportunities and elective courses beneficial to academic growth and development, adding interest and enhancement to the core curriculum and to other learning activities.
Trade Training
The world has changed since the days when young men were taught to work with their hands in the school industrial arts class. Today, schools are closing their shop classes, and opting for technologically advanced courses in computer and information technology, robotics and early engineering classes. This is all well and good; however, it leaves a great gap for those who are interested in the traditional, hands-on classes in trades such as: auto-mechanics, welding, carpentry, auto-body repair, etc.
At Still Waters Christian Boarding School, we recognize the fact that parents do not always comprehend how far behind their son has become academically until it is almost too late. By the time many parents decide to seek help for their child, he has fallen so far behind that it is not possible for him to graduate with a high school diploma. This being more common than not, Still Waters has instituted a training program in which they are able to learn skills and lessons in various areas such as: carpentry, plumbing, auto mechanics, painting, auto-body repair, landscaping, and welding/fabrication, and much much more.
Once a young man has graduated from our school, he will be able to take the industrial skills that he has achieved while at the home and become self-supporting in an industry that he enjoys, and has gained valuable experience. Life will then reveal to him the need for any further education to excel in his chosen field of endeavor. Often times, he will seek to go into business for himself, and a business degree at a community college or night school will then become his goal.
Life Classes
Although we strive to teach the boys something daily, we have also established a more structured learning environment for them as well.
The purpose of these “classes” is to teach them applicable life-skills that are beneficial for them to know that they might use later in life, but might not otherwise learn.
We work on skills such as: cooking, how to read/use a map, how to change a tire, budgeting, how to write a check and balance a checkbook, how to properly write a letter, resume building, interview skills, first aid, etc.
Our goal is to make the biggest impact we can in their lives during their time here, both spiritually and through practical life skills.
